Sand filtration, the tried and true pool filtration system, is the least efficient filtration used in swimming pools. Sand filter systems will provide filtration down to approximately 40 microns. Fiber Clear produces two products (Fiber Clear™ and Fiber Blend™) designed to greatly improve sand filtration efficiency.
Using Fiber Clear as a light top coat filter aid:
Add Fiber Clear directly into the skimmer to provide a top coat to your sand filter. Add the proper amount of Fiber Clear of your sand filter - (varies according to the diameter of your sand filter). Dosage Charts also vary by bag size. Refer to the back of the bag, or download the chart specific to your bag size.
Fiber Clear allows your filter to capture particulate down to 2 microns. When operating pressure reaches 10 psi above "clean filter" pressure, it is time to backwash. After backwashing, return the filter to the service position and recharge with Fiber Clear for the next filtration cycle. A 16-ounce "Fiber Clear cup", by volume, will top coat a 24-inch diameter sand filter.
When initially using Fiber Clear, you may experience faster pressure increases as the filter now captures particles that pass through sand filters. Your cycle is somewhat shorter because your filter is working better. You are filtering from 40 microns down to 2 microns. Simply backwash and recharge with Fiber Clear until all the pool water has cycled through the filter. A pool cycle is typically 5 to 8 hours.
Using Fiber Blend as a top coat filter aid:
Add Fiber Blend directly into the skimmer to provide a top coat to your sand filter. Add the proper amount of Fiber Blend based on bag size (the diameter in inches) of your sand filter. (Dosage chart is available on this page). This improves your filter’s ability to capture particulates down to 2 microns. You may experience faster pressure increases as the filter now captures particles that pass through sand filters. Simply backwash and recharge with Fiber Blend until all the pool water has cycled through the filter. A pool cycle is typically 5 to 8 hours. Fiber Blend contains a natural enzyme that scavenges oils in pool water, (suntan lotions, body oils, and cosmetic residue). Your water clarity will improve dramatically…and the scum line on the tile will be greatly reduced.
For commercial applications, use Fiber Blend and Fiber Clear alternately to keep oils in check. The enzyme remains in the pool, scavenging oils for up to 15 days.
